About Us

In millions of products. Invisible, but essential.

Our Story

Since 1886, Zwirnerei an der Wutach has been a trusted name in specialized thread production. Located in the scenic Wutachtal valley in the southern Black Forest region of Germany, we've built our reputation on precision, quality, and reliability over more than 135 years.

What started in 1886 in Stühlingen as a thread mill powered by hydropower from the river Wutach has grown into a modern, fully automated production facility serving customers worldwide. But our core values remain unchanged: absolute commitment to quality, sustainable production, and personalized customer service.

Today, our threads are found in millions of products every day—from tea bags that bring comfort to millions, to hygiene products that accompany our daily lives, to industrial packaging that keeps goods safe. In millions of products every day — invisible, but essential.

Our Journey

1886

Foundation

Swiss entrepreneur Albert Denzler establishes the Zwirnerei in Stühlingen, bringing international experience from the US textile industry. From the start, the company uses hydropower from the river Wutach.

1895

Overcoming Adversity

A century flood destroys large parts of the facilities. Despite this setback, Albert Denzler invests in reconstruction, new machines, and expands the canal system.

1903

Technological Progress

Installation of a Francis turbine improves energy supply. The company grows to become an important regional employer.

1911

Second Generation

Franz Steinweg, son-in-law of Albert Denzler, joins the company and leads it through challenging times including inflation, economic crises, and two World Wars.

1950s

Electrification

Under Walter Steinweg's leadership, the plant is electrified, replacing the mechanical power transmission system and modernizing production.

1973

Strategic Specialization

Gerd Steinweg takes over and initiates a decisive strategic shift, focusing on tea bag threads, retrieval cords, packaging industry threads, and food/hygiene applications.

1980s-90s

Expansion & Certification

New production halls are built (1981, 1987, 1994) with modern machinery. Multiple certifications confirm high quality, hygiene, and safety standards.

~2010
